At North Tampa Christian Academy, a Tampa private school, we believe physical education is just as important as academics. Our curriculum includes health and fitness classes to incorporate engaging, hands on activities that encourage your child to be active.
The Curriculum
In grades seven to 10, students take health, fitness, and sports classes. These classes are incorporated into their curriculum to meet many goals. When your child participates in physical activity, he demonstrates competency in motor skills and movement patterns. Each sport that is performed comes with an understanding of movement concepts, principles, strategies, and tactics. By applying biomechanical concepts and principles, your child is able to analyze and improve his performance. He will exhibit a responsible social behavior, allowing him to make friends and teammates. He will enjoy the satisfaction of meeting and cooperating with his peers of diverse backgrounds.
The Importance
Ultimately, he will value physical activity for health, enjoyment, challenge, self-expression, and social interaction. Starting physical education at a young age will help your child grow and develop in a healthy way. Even just a little playtime and running around outside is sufficient. Any activity from monkey bar exercises to playing basketball makes a difference. As he gets older, he will be able to make wise decisions involving his well-being. Regular physical activity can help boost the following:
Academic performance: Fitness will get the blood pumping in his body and brain, which will improve his performance when he goes back to his classes. By participating in physical activity, students perform higher levels of concentration and composed behaviors. With this newfound concentration, your child will strengthen his study skills and improve his grades.
Social interaction: The activities your child will participate in during physical education is an opportunity for social interaction. When children are young, they learn to cooperate in group settings and will develop a positive sense of identity from his team. Working in a team is essential for his growth, especially as he works his way into leadership roles.
Reduce stress: When a school puts an emphasis on sports in the curriculum, students perform better in other subjects. A curriculum that forces your child to sit in a classroom for several hours will cause a lot of stress for him. He needs a break from the books. Playtime is a stress-reliever and a great outlet to get rid of any anxiety, which will facilitate emotional resilience and stability.
Proper nutrition: An important element of physical education is nutrition. Nutrition and fitness go hand in hand; you can’t have one without the other. By participating in P.E., your child will develop an understanding about the importance of proper eating. In high school, eating disorders and obesity are common. Before he attends high school, educate him about the guidelines of eating well.
